Ingredients
- 1 1/4 lbs. (567 g) beef, diced into 1-inch cubes
- 1 Tbsp (15 ml) vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) beef broth
- 2 Tbsp (30 ml) honey
- 1 1/2 Tbsp (22.5 ml) packed light brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp (15 ml) rice vinegar
- 1/4 tsp (1.25 ml) toasted sesame oil
- 2 tsp (10 ml) peeled and minced fresh ginger
- 2 tsp (10 ml) peeled and minced fresh garlic (2 cloves)
- 2 tsp (10 ml) cornstarch
- Sesame seeds and chopped green onions, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Warm up vegetable oil in a 12-inch non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
- Place the beef cubes in the pan and allow them to sear on one side for about 3 to 4 minutes, then turn them over and cook until the internal temperature reaches approximately 160 degrees Fahrenheit, roughly 3 more minutes.
- As the beef cooks, combine soy sauce, beef broth, honey, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, and cornstarch in a small bowl or measuring cup, whisking them together thoroughly.
- Pour the sauce over the cooked beef and keep cooking and stirring until the sauce becomes thick, which should take an additional 30 to 60 seconds.
- Serve hot, adding a sprinkle of green onions and sesame seeds on top if you prefer.
Notes
- Marinate chicken in soy sauce mixture for enhanced flavor before cooking.
- Control saltiness by using low-sodium soy sauce and beef broth.
- Adjust sweetness with honey and brown sugar to your taste.
