Description

A flavorful and nostalgic dish featuring chicken marinated in a savory-sweet soy sauce based sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces of chicken thighs or drumsticks
  • 1/2 cup shoyu (soy sauce)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Mix together the shoyu, brown sugar, water, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  2. Prepare the chicken by placing it in a zip-top bag or shallow dish, then pour the marinade over the chicken.
  3. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate to marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Transfer the marinated chicken to a baking dish and pour the leftover marinade on top.
  6. Bake for 30-40 minutes until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

Try to marinate overnight for richer flavor. Basting halfway through cooking can enhance moisture and flavor.
