Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- ½ medium onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or thawed frozen)
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 cup orzo pasta
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (e.g., rotisserie)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (preferably sharp)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Sauté the chopped onions for 3–4 minutes until they become translucent and fragrant.
- Add the broccoli and cook for 2 more minutes, allowing it to soften slightly.
- Stir in the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and orzo pasta, toasting for 30 seconds for added flavor.
- Pour in the chicken broth, heavy cream, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to simmer.
- Cook uncovered for 10 minutes, stirring often to prevent sticking.
- Incorporate the shredded chicken, stirring to heat it through.
- Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Let it sit for 2–3 minutes to thicken before serving.
