Description

A comforting dish of orzo pasta, tender broccoli, and shredded chicken combined with a creamy cheddar cheese sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • ½ medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or thawed frozen)
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (e.g., rotisserie)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (preferably sharp)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Sauté the chopped onions for 3–4 minutes until they become translucent and fragrant.
  3. Add the broccoli and cook for 2 more minutes, allowing it to soften slightly.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and orzo pasta, toasting for 30 seconds for added flavor.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth, heavy cream, and Worcestershire sauce.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to simmer.
  7. Cook uncovered for 10 minutes, stirring often to prevent sticking.
  8. Incorporate the shredded chicken, stirring to heat it through.
  9. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted.
  10. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  11. Let it sit for 2–3 minutes to thicken before serving.
