A comforting and flavorful Chicken Chow Mein dish, perfect for busy home cooks.
Ingredients
- 1 pound chicken breast, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (for marinade)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (for marinade)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- 1 cup bean sprouts
- 3 green onions, sliced
- 8 ounces chow mein noodles or spaghetti
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (for Chow Mein sauce)
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (for Chow Mein sauce)
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken with 1 tablespoon soy sauce and 1 tablespoon cornstarch for 15 minutes.
- Prepare the Chow Mein sauce by mixing 1/4 cup soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, chicken broth, sugar, grated ginger, and minced garlic in a bowl.
- Cook the chow mein noodles or spaghetti according to the package instructions, drain, and set aside.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat and stir-fry the marinated chicken for 4-5 minutes until cooked through.
- Remove the chicken from the skillet and add sliced onion and shredded carrots, stir-frying for 2-3 minutes, then add cabbage and bean sprouts for another 2 minutes.
- Return the chicken and noodles to the skillet, pour the Chow Mein sauce over, and toss for 2-3 minutes until well combined.
- Add sliced green onions, toss again and serve hot.
Notes
For added flavor, consider garnishing with toasted sesame seeds and customizing vegetables based on preference.
