Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Fresh basil (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Set up dredging station: one dish with flour, another with beaten eggs, and a third with breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper.
- Coat each chicken breast in flour, shake off excess, dip in beaten eggs, and then coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the chicken breasts for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Place the browned chicken in a baking dish and spoon marinara sauce over each piece, topping with shredded mozzarella.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
Notes
For a lighter version, bake the coated chicken without frying. Monitor oil temperature to prevent burnt crumbs.
