Ingredients
- – 10.5 oz (300 g) fresh Hokkien noodles
- – 7 oz (200 g) beef strips (about 1 large breast)
- – 2 cups (480 ml) cabbage, thinly sliced
- – 1.5 cups (360 ml) broccoli, cut into thin, small florets
- – 1 carrot, medium size, cut into thin sticks
- – 1/2 brown onion
- – 1 clove garlic, minced
- – 1/2 tbsp (8 ml) light soy sauce
- – 1 tbsp (15 ml) dark soy sauce
- – 1 tsp (5 ml) brown sugar (white is okay too)
- – 2 tbsp (30 ml) cooking oil (vegetable, canola, or olive all is okay)
Instructions
- Submerge the noodles in hot water following the instructions on the package.
- While the noodles are soaking, heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium to high heat and sauté the onion and garlic.
- When the onion and garlic turn a light golden color and release a pleasant aroma, introduce the beef strips and cook until they are browned but not fully done, approximately 2 minutes.
- Transfer everything from the pan into a bowl and set it aside for use later.
- In the same pan, add the carrots, cabbage, and broccoli, and sauté them over high heat with the remaining tablespoon of oil for 1 minute to enhance their color and taste.
- Add ¼ cup of water to the pan, cover it with a lid, and cook for 3 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
- Remove the lid and let any remaining water evaporate from the pan. The pan should be nearly dry.
- Once the water has evaporated, move the vegetables to the sides of the pan. Add the previously sautéed beef mixture, both soy sauces, sugar, and the prepared noodles to the center.
- Stir everything together for 2 minutes, ensuring it is well mixed.
- Serve without delay!
Notes
- Marinate chicken in soy sauce and minced garlic for 30 minutes for a more flavorful dish.
- Add red pepper flakes or chili oil for a spicy kick before serving.
- Cook noodles until tender yet slightly chewy for the best texture.
