Description
A delightful dish of crispy baked chicken breasts topped with rich marinara and melted cheese, perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style)
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Place the chicken breasts between two pieces of plastic wrap or parchment paper and pound them to an even thickness, about 1/2-inch thick.
- Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and oregano.
- Dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off the excess. Dip into the beaten eggs, then coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add the breaded chicken breasts and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until they are golden brown but not fully cooked through.
- Pour marinara sauce over the chicken breasts in the skillet. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with freshly chopped basil before serving.
Notes
Serve with a side of pasta or a fresh garden salad. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
