A delightful and easy oven-baked Chicken Parmesan featuring a crunchy breadcrumb crust, rich marinara sauce, and gooey mozzarella.
Ingredients
- 2 large chicken breasts, sliced horizontally into 4 pieces
- 1 cup fine breadcrumbs (plain or Italian-style)
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus extra for topping)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Olive oil spray or 1 tbsp olive oil
- Optional: dried oregano, basil, or red pepper flakes for added flavor, fresh basil or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Slice the chicken breasts horizontally into 4 thin pieces and season with salt and pepper.
- In a bowl, beat the egg. In another bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper together.
- Dip each chicken piece in the beaten egg and then coat it thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
- Place the coated chicken on a greased baking sheet. Lightly spray the tops with olive oil for an extra crunch.
- Bake for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through for an even bake.
- After 20 minutes, remove the chicken from the oven. Top each piece with marinara sauce, shredded mozzarella, and more grated Parmesan.
- Return to the oven to bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the cheese melts and bubbles.
Notes
For added flavor, consider seasoning with dried oregano, basil, or red pepper flakes. Garnish with fresh herbs for presentation.
