Description

A comforting smothered chicken recipe that embodies nostalgia, featuring tender chicken and a rich, velvety sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds bone-in chicken pieces
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Season chicken pieces with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  3. Sear the chicken for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add chopped onion and garlic. Sauté until translucent.
  5. Pour in chicken broth, scraping up any brown bits from the skillet.
  6. Add heavy cream and thyme, then stir to combine.
  7. Return the chicken to the skillet, ensuring it’s submerged in the sauce.
  8. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 45-60 minutes until chicken is tender and falls off the bone.

Notes

Allow the chicken to rest after cooking for the sauce to thicken and flavors to settle. Experiment with herbs and spices to customize the dish.
