Description

Discover how to make a delicious and flavorful Fried Cabbage with Shrimp and Sausage recipe. Perfect for a quick and satisfying meal!

Ingredients

  • 1 Large Head of Cabbage, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) Vegetable oil
  • 6 Strips of Beef Bacon, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 package beef sausage (sliced diagonally into 1/2 inch pieces)
  • 1 lb (454 g) Uncooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Smoked Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Cajun Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Lemon Pepper Seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) Vegetable oil
  • 1 Medium Onion, sliced
  • 1 Red Bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 Orange Bell Pepper, sliced
  • 2 Garlic Cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) All Purpose Seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) Black Pepper
  • Pinch of Red Pepper Flakes

Instructions

  1. In a large pan on medium heat, pour in the vegetable oil and cook the beef bacon and sausage pieces until they are nicely browned and crispy, about 3-5 minutes. Take them out of the pan.
  2. Combine the shrimp with the Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and lemon pepper seasoning. Place the shrimp in the pan and cook for 60 seconds on each side. Remove them from the pan and set them aside with the bacon and sausage.
  3. Keep about a teaspoon of the leftover grease from the bacon, sausage, and shrimp in the pan and add the 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add the sliced onion and bell peppers, and sauté until the onion is see-through. Stir in the minced garlic.
  4. Then, add the chopped cabbage, lower the heat to medium-low, and cover the pan. Let the cabbage soften for about 10-12 minutes. Stir the cabbage and pepper mixture to combine everything. Sprinkle in the all-purpose seasoning, black pepper, and red pepper flakes, then mix. Cover again and cook on low for another 5 minutes to let the flavors blend.
  5. Take off the lid. Mix in the cooked bacon, sausage, and shrimp. Give everything a good stir to combine, and serve either over rice, with cornbread, or on its own. ENJOY!

Notes

  • Enhance the flavor by ensuring the shrimp is thoroughly coated in Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and lemon pepper before cooking.
  • Adjust the red pepper flakes for a spicier taste.
  • Customize by adding okra or tomatoes, and opt for turkey bacon for a healthier alternative.
