Description

Delicious and flavorful Greek Chicken Gyros made with marinated chicken, tzatziki, and fresh veggies wrapped in warm pita bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Juice of 1 lemon (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 pieces of warm pita bread
  • 1 cup tzatziki sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • Fresh vegetables: sliced tomatoes, red onion, shredded lettuce

Instructions

  1. Whisk together olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, oregano, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  2. Add the chicken strips and coat them evenly with the marinade. Allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight if possible.
  3. Preheat the grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook the marinated chicken on the grill for 5-7 minutes per side until fully cooked, reaching an internal temperature of 165°F.
  5. Prepare tzatziki sauce if making from scratch, then chill it.
  6. Remove chicken from grill and let it rest for a minute.
  7. Warm pita bread in the oven or on the grill.
  8. Assemble gyros with grilled chicken, tzatziki sauce, and fresh vegetables. Roll tightly and serve immediately.

Notes

For best flavor, marinate chicken overnight. Experiment with additional spices and serve with a side salad.
