Description
Delicious and flavorful Greek Chicken Gyros made with marinated chicken, tzatziki, and fresh veggies wrapped in warm pita bread.
Ingredients
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- Juice of 1 lemon (about 2 tablespoons)
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 pieces of warm pita bread
- 1 cup tzatziki sauce (homemade or store-bought)
- Fresh vegetables: sliced tomatoes, red onion, shredded lettuce
Instructions
- Whisk together olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, oregano, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Add the chicken strips and coat them evenly with the marinade. Allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight if possible.
- Preheat the grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Cook the marinated chicken on the grill for 5-7 minutes per side until fully cooked, reaching an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Prepare tzatziki sauce if making from scratch, then chill it.
- Remove chicken from grill and let it rest for a minute.
- Warm pita bread in the oven or on the grill.
- Assemble gyros with grilled chicken, tzatziki sauce, and fresh vegetables. Roll tightly and serve immediately.
Notes
For best flavor, marinate chicken overnight. Experiment with additional spices and serve with a side salad.
