Ingredients

  • 500g / 1 lb chicken breast, boneless and skinless (2 pieces)
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) flour
  • 3 1/2 tbsp (50 g) unsalted butter (or 2 1/2 tbsp olive oil)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/2 tbsp (23 ml) apple cider vinegar (or white or other clear vinegar)
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) soy sauce, light or all purpose
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) honey (or maple syrup)

Instructions

  1. Slice the chicken breasts horizontally to obtain four pieces in total. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Spread flour in a shallow bowl. Dredge the chicken pieces in the flour, then gently shake off any surplus.
  3. In a large frying pan over high heat, melt the majority of the butter, reserving about 1 teaspoon for later use.
  4. Place the chicken in the pan and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until they turn golden brown. Flip them over and cook the opposite side for 1 minute.
  5. Reduce the heat slightly to medium-high.
  6. Create a small space in the pan, add minced garlic, and top it with the remaining bit of butter. Stir the garlic briefly once the butter has melted.
  7. Pour in the vinegar, soy sauce, and honey. Stir or shake the pan to mix everything together. Allow the sauce to reach a simmer and continue simmering for 1 minute or until it slightly thickens.
  8. Rotate the chicken pieces to coat them in the sauce. If the sauce becomes too thick, add a little water and mix.
  9. Remove the pan from the heat immediately. Serve the chicken on plates and drizzle the remaining sauce over the top.
