Ingredients
- 30 chicken wings
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons Mirin
- 1/2 cup honey (or maple syrup, or agave)
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels.
- In a large bowl, mix olive oil, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Toss wings until well coated.
- In another bowl, whisk together soy sauce, Mirin, honey, water, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using).
- Pour the honey garlic mixture over the chicken wings and mix well. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C) and prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Spread the marinated wings on the baking sheet in a single layer.
- Bake the wings for 40-45 minutes, flipping them halfway through.
- In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Add to leftover marinade in a saucepan and bring to a gentle boil. Stir until thickened.
- Brush the thickened sauce over the cooked wings.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds over the wings before serving.
Notes
Experiment with sweeteners and don’t hesitate to add red pepper flakes for some heat.
