Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) honey ($1.08)
  • 2 Tbsp (30 ml) soy sauce ($0.14)
  • 1 Tbsp (15 ml) rice vinegar ($0.10)
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) sriracha ($0.05)
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) toasted sesame oil ($0.20)
  • 1 Tbsp (15 ml) cornstarch ($0.05)
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts ($6.49)
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) salt ($0.05)
  • 1/2 tsp (3 ml) black pepper ($0.02)
  • 1/2 tsp (3 ml) garlic powder ($0.05)
  • 2 Tbsp (30 ml) all-purpose flour ($0.04)
  • 3 Tbsp (45 ml) olive oil ($0.48)
  • 2 Tbsp (30 ml) vegetable oil ($0.27)
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced ($0.32)
  • 2 green onions, sliced ($0.24)

Instructions

  1. To begin, prepare the sauce by mixing together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sriracha, toasted sesame oil, and cornstarch in a small bowl. Set this mixture aside for later use.
  2. Slice the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces, approximately 1/2 inch each. Season these pieces with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Coat the seasoned chicken pieces thoroughly with flour.
  3. Place a large skillet on medium-high heat and pour in 2 tablespoons of oil, making sure the oil evenly covers the pan. Once the oil is heated, add half of the chicken pieces and cook them until they are browned on all sides and thoroughly cooked. Transfer the cooked chicken to a separate plate and set it aside. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the skillet and cook the second batch of chicken in the same manner. Set all the cooked chicken aside.
  4. In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium-low and add butter. Add the minced garlic cloves and sauté them for 30 to 60 seconds until they release their aroma.
  5. Stir the sauce once more and pour it into the skillet with the garlic. Make sure to mix well and scrape any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 2 minutes until it thickens due to the cornstarch.
  6. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and mix it with the sauce until all pieces are coated evenly. Cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes to ensure the chicken is thoroughly heated.
  7. Take the skillet off the heat, sprinkle with sliced green onions, and serve immediately.
