Description

Discover how to make delicious honey mustard chicken with this easy recipe. Learn the secret to a perfect balance of sweet and tangy flavors!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound (454 g) chicken breast or chicken thighs
  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml) honey
  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml) mustard
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 garlic clove, finely minced or grated
  • Optional if you like a bit of heat: 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) cayenne pepper
  • Freshly ground salt and black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the honey, mustard, vegetable oil, minced garlic, cayenne pepper if desired, and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Ensure the chicken is fully covered in this mixture by stirring it thoroughly.
  3. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the chicken for 30 to 60 minutes.
  4. Cook the chicken using either grilling or baking, as you prefer. This recipe serves four people.
  5. For grilling: Heat your grill to 400°F. Once hot, place the chicken on it and close the lid to retain heat.
  6. Grill one side of the chicken for 6-8 minutes.
  7. Afterward, open the grill and turn the chicken over using tongs, flipping it only once for optimal juiciness and grill marks.
  8. Continue grilling for another 6-8 minutes.
  9. Cooking times may vary based on the chicken’s size and cut, so use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  10. When done, transfer the chicken to a clean plate or cutting board and immediately cover it with foil to keep the juices in.
  11. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing to maintain that juicy texture.
  12. For baking: Preheat your oven to 400°F.
  13. Arrange the chicken on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  14. Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until the chicken is no longer pink and the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of honey in the marinade to suit your taste preference for a sweeter flavor.
  • Experiment with different types of mustard like Dijon or whole grain to enhance the dish with a unique taste.
  • Consider removing the skin from chicken thighs before marinating to reduce excess fat, if desired.
