Description
A delightful Char Siu chicken recipe that blends sweet and savory flavors, perfect for weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup honey (may substitute with maple syrup)
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce (mix soy sauce with sugar if unavailable)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (use tamari for a gluten-free option)
- 1 teaspoon warm spices (five-spice powder; or replace with ginger and garlic to taste)
- 4 pieces skinless chicken thighs
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional garnish)
- 2 stalks green onions (can substitute with chives)
Instructions
- Whisk together honey, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and warm spices until well combined. This will be the marinade for your chicken.
- Place the chicken thighs in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them, ensuring they are well coated. Allow them to marinate for at least 15 minutes — longer if you have time.
- Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat.
- Cook the chicken thighs for about 6-8 minutes per side or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F if grilling. If baking, arrange the chicken thighs in the baking dish and pour any remaining marinade on top. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until cooked through.
- Remove the chicken from the grill or oven. Let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions before serving.
Notes
Consider marinating the chicken overnight for a more pronounced flavor explosion. Using a meat thermometer can help ensure tenderness.
