Description

Delicious Mediterranean chicken gyros with marinated chicken thighs and a creamy feta tzatziki sauce, perfect for summer nights with friends.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cucumber, diced
  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken thighs by combining olive oil, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Ensure the chicken is well-coated and let it soak for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the marinated chicken for 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
  3. Remove the chicken from the skillet, let it rest, and then slice into strips.
  4. Prepare the creamy feta tzatziki by mixing together Greek yogurt, crumbled feta, lemon juice, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.
  5. To assemble the gyros, spread tzatziki on each pita bread, add slices of marinated chicken, and top with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and red onion. Roll the pita and enjoy.

Notes

For enhanced flavor, marinate the chicken longer and ensure to use fresh ingredients.
