Description
Delightful squares featuring flaky puff pastry, rich vanilla custard, and fluffy whipped cream.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry (thawed)
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 large egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
- Unfold the thawed puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface. Cut it into squares, about 2×2 inches in size.
- Place the pastry squares on the prepared baking sheet. Use a fork to poke several holes in each square.
- Bake the pastry for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool on a wire rack.
- In a saucepan, combine the whole milk, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks over medium heat. Stir continuously until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Once thickened, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow it to cool slightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cooled custard.
- When the pastry has cooled, slice each square in half horizontally. Fill the bottom half with a generous amount of the vanilla custard cream and replace the top half.
- Dust with powdered sugar for an elegant touch, if desired.
Notes
For a richer flavor, consider using homemade vanilla extract or vanilla bean. Garnish with fresh berries or mint leaves for an enhanced presentation.
